Kick-start your summer by experiencing amazing aerial displays at the 2014 Waterloo Air Show. Aviation is
showcased both in the air and on the ground. Returning favourites will include spectacular displays by the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, Canada’s CF-18 fighter jet demonstration, daring aerobatics, warbirds and more.

Four new acts will be in Waterloo Region this year:
• Jet School Bus -- a 367 mph school bus may be impractical for getting the kids to school but they're going to love the roar and flames as the Indy Boys take to the runway
• B-17 bombers – not one, but two historical WWII B-17 bombers will be in Waterloo this year. Last year did see one B-17 in Waterloo but it was on ground display. This year, one will fly. And incredibly, both B-17 Yankee Lady & B-17 Sentimental Journey will be offering rides for $450 U.S. With 12,000 B-17s built, they became one of the most important aircraft of WWII.
• Lucas Oil Skydivers -- Look way up and marvel at these 3 talented skydivers as they ride the winds using their highly maneuverable parachutes.
• Mike Tryggvason – hard work comes easy to this son of Canadian astronaut Bjarni Tryggvason;

Acts rounding out the 2014 Waterloo Air Show line-up include:

• Canadian Forces Snowbirds - with their awe-inspiring 9-plane aerobatic formations
• Canadian Forces CF-18 demonstration jet - Canada's fighter jet
• L-29 - flown by air show co-producer Richard Cooper
• Kent Pietsch & his yellow Jelly Belly plane - veteran U.S. aerobatic performer with 3 separate acts
• Mike Wiskus, aerobatics - a former U.S. aerobatic champ, Mike’s performance is incredible!
• Gord Price - a 71-year-old aerobatic pilot from Thornbury flying a YAK 50, Serial #1
• T-33 Silver Star - the ‘Mako Shark’ from the Jet Aircraft Museum in London
• Harvard Formation Team - 4 planes from the Canadian Harvard Aircraft Assoc. in Tillsonburg
• Wayne Hadath - a Kitchener resident who races his home-built F1-Rocket
• Danny Richer - Brantford resident flying his Strikemaster
• Pyro - lots of smoke and flame -- kaboom!
(all acts are subject to change due to operational duties and mechanical difficulties)

A Static Display (aircraft parked on the tarmac all weekend) will offer this year’s guests additional opportunities to see aircraft up close, take photos and speak to the pilots. Most significantly are a number of WWII and post-WWII aircraft including a B-17 (offering rides), TBM Avenger, AC-47 Spooky, C-46 Commando, C-123 Provider and a B-25 Mitchell.

This two-day family event will also offer additional entertainment and activities including an Autograph Tent, displays, vendors, a kids amusement area, Food Truck Alley and licensed areas.
Bring your chairs and cameras out to the Region of Waterloo International Airport and let your wings soar!

WWII B-17 Flying Fortress “Sentimental Journey”
coming to Waterloo

“To Honor All Veterans, Past and Present”

One of the last flying WWII B-17 bombers, “Sentimental Journey,” will be available for cockpit tours and public flights at the Region of Waterloo International Airport, June 28th  June 29th, 2014.

Mesa, Arizona -- The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress was the primary bomber used by the American Air Force against Nazi Germany. Of the 12,731 B-17s originally built, less than ten remain in flying condition and only a very few fly regularly.  922 B-17s were lost in combat over Europe, with a loss of nearly 10,000 airmen.  The US 8th Air Force suffered the majority of these losses. Sentimental Journey proudly displays the markings of the 457th Bomb Group in their remembrance. Nose art of the Sentimental Journey features Betty Grable, the number-one pin-up girl of the World War II era. The aircraft is named after a song made popular by Doris Day in 1945.

Airplane enthusiasts, veterans, children and history buffs will love seeing this famous WWII aircraft. Sentimental Journey is maintained and operated as a flying museum and veterans’ memorial by the all-volunteer non-profit U.S.-based Commemorative Air Force. Built during 1943, this heavy bomber has been continuously flown, performing missions from military reconnaissance to drone "mother ship" during nuclear testing, as well as firefighting, before being retired. It was donated to the Arizona Wing in 1978, restored to full military specification, and has been touring North America since the early 1980s.

A thrilling flight inside this historic warbird starts at $425.00 per person. For flight reservations, the public can call 587-338-8817 or email b17rc@azcaf.org. Cockpit tours are only $5; ground viewing and photo opportunities are free to the visiting public from 9am - 5pm each day.

The Sentimental Journey is operated by the Arizona Airbase of the Commemorative Air Force located at Falcon Field in Mesa, Arizona. Organized in 1978, the CAF’s mission is to restore and preserve historically important aircraft and related memorabilia in order to educate the public about the significant contributions made by men and women in the defense of our nation.
