Kitchener Rangers Remember Our Troops

Rangers To Wear Commemorative Remembrance Day Jersey
on
Friday, November 2, 2007
at
7:30 pm

The 3rd Annual Remembrance Day Jersey Auction will pay tribute to the many veterans who fought battle for us all. The Rangers will be wearing a special commemorative Remembrance Day Jersey for their game on Friday, November 2, 2007 against the Erie Otters.
The special jersey to be worn once portrays the Remembrance Day theme as well as honours the 1956 K-W Dutchmen Canadian Olympic Hockey Team. The Jersey has been designed to be fully crested with Rangers shields on the shoulder and the maple leaf with a poppy centred on the chest. The Jersey is in a Rangers blue colour.
During the game a silent auction will take place. Fans may bid on any of the jerseys that are worn. All proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the 78th Fraser Highlanders Fort Conestoga Garrison and a number of organizations it has chosen to support as part of its mandate to remember not only the past, but to also be mindful of the present. Beneficiaries have included the KW Poppy Fund and the London Military Family Resource Centre in support of soldiers in Afghanistan.
In the past 2 years the Remembrance Day Jersey Auction has raised more than $30,000 for various beneficiaries.
We also ask that fans attending the game wear red in support of our troops and to pay tribute to our veterans.

Tickets for this special game night are available at The Aud box office, Centre In The Square, online at http://www.blogger.com/www.centre-square.com or by calling 519-578-1570.

A Sea of Red and Sapper Mike McTeague Wounded Warrior Fund

Mr. Thibideau and I are here to assist in uniting our country in Support of our Troops.

On April 21, 2007, the Town of Uxbridge Ontario held a parade and mass rally in support of our troops stationed in Kandahar, around the world, and at home. The turn out exceeded everyone's expectations!

Organizer Dave Thibodeau began by taping messages of support from local service groups and the idea caught fire, and it grew. As word spread about the event, other towns throughout Durham Region got involved. York Region also had some representation in the Parade.

Thousands donned red t-shirts and participated in a parade, drum-head service, songs and more. The military sent a helicopter, a C-130, and Canada's Top Gun Captain Steven Neirlich in a CF-18 Hornet, from CFB Bagotville.

This emotionally moving demonstration of support sent a clear message. As always, we support those who have put themselves in harms way, for the good of others.

They have created a short video as a contribution to the outpouring of support, and it went with Dave's video messages to Kandahar to show the troops that we support them. In view of recent events they felt this will be a much needed moral booster.

See their website at: www.clulowassociates.com/seaofred.htm

They are now creating a one-hour memento DVD of the entire event and it's available for sale. For a copy of a DVD of "A Sea of Red", send $20 and a copy of the order form click here to view (if you are having difficulty viewing the form, simply email me and I'll forward one onto you) and send to:

A big HUA for Dave and Diane Thibodeau, the City of Uxbridge, and Clulow & Associates

And a BIG HUA for Sapper Mike McTeague and Captain Wayne Johnston!

The Sapper Mike McTeague Wounded Warriors Fund supports wounded soldiers who are rushed from the battlefield for emergency medical treatment. During this very traumatic period they are separated from the support of their fellow soldiers, their families and all their personal belongings. The fund provides some support during this period of extraordinary stress. When an injured soldier leaves an operational theatre, they do so quickly and without warning. Often they have with them just the clothes on their back and it is here where they are at their most vulnerable. This special fund sets out to alleviate this inconvenient deficiency by contributing quality of life items to the soldier. The “Wounded Warrior Packs” drive will contain a variety of items, which includes individual entertainment devices (like DVD player, MP3 players) to personal blankets among other items. In addition, hospitals that care for Canadian Forces personnel are to be installed with an entertainment library of video games, music and DVD movies. As well an Internet-equipped laptop or computers, items such as pool tables and other games and telephone services and Personal hospital TVs will be established. Many of you may be wondering if this should be the responsibility of the Department of Defense or the tax payer. Although this is a reasonable question the answer needs explanation. This fund raises monies to purchase gifts and needs to support the wounded and their morale. It is very much the same as you sending a gift to a soldier in theatre over seas. Should the taxpayer or DND pay for your gifts? Simply no. We would rather send the gifts from Canadians who wish to show they care as you would too. As every Canadian who lives in this gracious country, must acknowledge the peace on our land we have for over a hundred years. Our military involvement world wide has resulted in peace in our nation by standing in harms way abroad so we don't have too here in Canada. This benevolent fund for the quality of morale and state of mind for injured soldiers during the healing or rehabilitation process is an honorable way for anyone to demonstrate their appreciation.

Wear Red Event! June 3rd!

Support Our Troops- We Wear Red Event
-
Petawawa will be hosting a Wear Red Event
scheduled for Sunday, June 3rd.
Red t-shirts, yellow ribbons, car magnets are very prevelant. From cashiers to visitors, many people can be spotted wearing red in Petawawa each Friday... all as a visible show of support for Canadian Forces Personnel and their families.Royal Canadian Legion Branch 517 Petawawa Entertainment Chair Pat Oland would now like to see people literally come together to celebrate those who serve, and promote an organization whose mission it is "to serve veterans and their dependents,to promote remembrance, and to act in the service of Canada and its communities."

On June 3 from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.,

ten bands-- Freddy Vette & the Flames, The Legacy, Ghost Town Cryers, the Threshers, Mick Armitage Band, Common Ground, De'Mos, Quicksand, Memphis Mafia, and Split Decision

--will take the stage on the arena floor at the Petawawa Civic Centre for a "Support Our Troops - We Wear Red" event, a family-oriented day of music, entertainment, and activities including a pie eating contest, dunk tank, and games for the kids. "It's an event where the community can get together in one place to show their support," said Oland, who has organized the event with
help from a small committee, "and it's also a good opportunity to promote membership to the Legion, not just our Legion but any Legion," she said. Oland has written letters of invitation
to 36 other Legions, and has encouraged communities to organize transportation to and from the event. "We're seeing a new generation of war veterans ... and if we educate people and bring in new members, it will put the Legion in a good position to help veterans of all ages."
"Support Our Troops - We Wear Red" is a free event, made possible through support from businesses, the Town of Petawawa Parks and Recreation Department, Civic Centre Fundraising
Inc. committee who agreed to contribute bar proceeds, the town and numerous other organizations. All ten bands have also donated their time. "If the money we raise for the event exceeds what we need to put it on, the rest will be donated," said Oland. "The event itself is
more about showing our support as a community, and raising awareness of what the Legion does, than raising funds.
"It's about all our soldiers do in their communities and around the world, and all Legions do for those who need assistance." Free-will donations to support the Legion will be accepted on site throughout the day. For more information on the "Support Our Troops - We Wear Red" event, call 613-687-4657. The Legion is a non-profit, dues-supported fraternal organization with approximately 1,600 branches in Canada, the United States, Germany and the Netherlands.
The Legion receives no financial assistance from any outside agency. Membership is open to all Canadian citizens and Commonwealth subjects who subscribe to the purposes and objectives of the organization. The purposes and objectives of the Legion were born of the need to further the
spirit of comradeship and mutual assistance among all who have served, and never forget
the deeds of the fallen. In addition to acting as a veterans' advocacy agency, and assisting veterans and ex-service members in need and their families, the Legion also contributes
to programs for seniors, youth scholarships and bursaries, sports programs and activities.

Perhaps, we could charter a bus from the Baseball Game on the Saturday to Petawawa for Sunday! Now that's spirit! ... don't forget to wear your red!
